Preparing for Your Heli-Ski Trip

A little preparation goes a long way, and there's less to sort out than most people expect. CMH provides your skis and all the avalanche safety gear, so getting ready really comes down to arriving fit, packing well, and knowing what to expect. Here's everything in one place, and I'm a call or text away for the rest.

Two guides worth your time

The two things worth doing before you fly: arrive with your legs ready, and pack exactly what you need.

The gear CMH provides

This is the part that surprises people: you don't need to arrive with skis or avalanche gear. CMH supplies skis matched to the terrain and all the safety equipment, so there's far less to haul than a normal ski trip.

Skis are provided and dialed in for the snow, so there's no need to bring or reserve your own ahead of time.
Snowboarders: let me know your board preference in advance so CMH has the right one ready for your trip.
Avalanche safety gear (transceiver, shovel, and probe) is provided. There's no need to bring your own.
Want an airbag pack? You can rent a Mammut Removable Airbag 3.0 for about $40 CAD a day plus tax. Just let me know and I'll reserve one.

Getting there

Once you're booked I'll send the transportation schedule for your lodge. Pack your ski or snowboard boots in your carry-on in case your luggage is delayed, since the lodges don't keep spare boots.

At the lodge

Lodge life is relaxed. Leave the dressy clothes at home, keep it casual, and bring a pair of flip flops for the spa. There's wifi throughout the building and a landline for emergencies, plus a washer and dryer if you'd rather pack light.

A few gear notes

A couple of small things that matter for safety. Your avalanche transceiver needs to work without interference, so two kinds of gear need a second thought.

GoPro: helmet mounts are fine, but skip the chest mount, since it interferes with your transceiver.
Heated gear: heated vests aren't permitted because they interfere with transceivers. Heated gloves are fine, but bring a non-heated pair to wear while you handle your transceiver.
